This is what happens when...

...mommy stays in bed a little longer than normal because it's SPRING BREAK!
Chris was putting on his shoes next to our bed and softly says, "Mindy you're going to want to see this." Of course I jump up and look into my bathroom to find my sweet baby doing this-

using the mirror no less
I was happy that he was more than willing to stay put while I ran to get the camera.
This is also what happens when mom and friend are right there and a son chooses not to obey.
I'm a bit shaken up about something that happened yesterday. We'd had a great day at the zoo (pictures to come later) and then the kids were able to play with friends. As we were walking home from picking them up we stopped to chat with a neighbor up the road. The boys were riding bikes and running across the street. Everytime we heard a car coming we'd yell at them to remind them to stay put. One truck was coming and Austin decided that he wasn't going to listen and kept coming. Both Jenni and I were screaming for him and the truck to stop. For some odd reason the truck didn't see us or Austin until it was about 10 feet away. He slammed on his breaks and they locked up. You know how sometimes you think you're kid will stop and you go back and forth in debate whether or not to take control of their actions? like in a fight with friends...do I butt in or let them work it out. Anyways I froze. Jenni ran to grab him and I'm so grateful for her. The truck still was a decent distance away even after skidding a bit.
All is well, but even today I'm still numb from the incident. I've never had an experience that close to losing a child.
Please don't judge me or my parenting skills. Chris helped me realize that there are many different lessons to be learned from all angles. I was extremely surprised that Austin didn't listen. I know it sounds silly, but he normally listens to me and obeys. Yes, I yelled and a choice word came out of my mouth, but I later explained to the older boys that this was a perfect example of how their little bro. follows their example and why I don't like them riding in the road even though they can hear cars coming. That helped Colin because he was like 'what did I do' as I was yelling at them.

wow, scary! what a great job of turning something so potentially awful into a good teaching moment for your kids. i wasn't there, and i'm shaking for you--it really makes me wonder too, cause my little girl is usually a good listener, so i don't panic much, but there's always that one time when they don't listen. scary!

That is so scary! I am so glad the truck finally saw him, I think that is one of my worst fears! I can't even imagine!

Oh Mindy! I'm SO glad everything turned out alright. I hate when something happens and I'm rooted to the spot. I'm so glad your friend was there to help.
The makeup is adorable. Great bribe pictures too for when he gets older!

Austin is so cute with your lip gloss!

That is scary about the truck. When things like that happen to me. I freeze up and others have had to step in for me and help. Glad your friend did.

I am glad that no one was hurt and that you had a friend there to help you.

Holy Crap! What a time to not obey. So does that moment keep playing in your mind now? When Cole dove into the water at the farm, it kept playing over and over in my mind. You are a great mother, no one is judging.
