Colins' birthday

Colin turned 9 on Saturday. We started celebrating Friday at school. Colin isn't big into cake/cupcakes. He chose to have donuts for his class. 2 dozen donuts later and he was thrilled.
We don't give our kids big parties every year. We think it's too much and then they expect it. Plus they really don't need all those gifts every year. So, we told them on the big years they can...5, 8, 12, 16...Now off my soapbox...we did take him to dinner with his best friend from Plano, Cade to Peter Piper Pizza. It's like Chuck E Cheese, just closer to our home. We all had a nice time. Cade also got to sleep over.

I took Cade home on my way to a bridal shower Saturday and that left time for Colin and Chris to finish Colins' pinewood derby car for that evening. The past two years Colin has had scouting events on his actual birthday. This year was the derby and he received his Wolf merit badge. Both grandparents were able to come and two of his cousins.

Tradition in our pack is to hold the scout upside down and the mom gets to put the pin on.

The proud scout and parents!

His car didn't place, but he had a good time and all the boys received a certificate. His was the 'most futuristic'

Austin was sitting on grandmas' lap and all of the sudden realized that he had 2 grandpas'. He got down and said "2 bampas' and pointed to both of them. We had a nice giggle.

Can't believe how big they are getting! I love your idea about birthdays. As we get invites every few weeks, it is hard to know what to do because one of those parties could buy (or earn in savings) so many other things that are really "needs". K that doesn't make sense, but I think you know what I mean! ;)

I still can't believe you have a scout. You aren't old enough for that! I love Pinewood Derby. What a fun tradition --almost as fun as that hanging upside down one. :)
