Colin had his 8th birthday this past Thursday. It's been a busy week & weekend. Thursday I sent peanut butter cookies to share with his classmates. He didn't want the normal cupcakes, and I was all for something different. Then that evening he had his first scouting event and it was a big one. The Blue and Gold Banquet. He really enjoyed himself. He looks so handsome in his scout uniform (thanks grandma Pete)
This pic was during uniform inspection- he, (or should I say I) passed. Since I was the one that sewed the badges and den #'s on. He gets to start attending den meetings every Thursday and is so excited to go to day camp this summer.

He's also made an important choice to be baptized. In our church children are baptized at age 8...the age that they can start being accountable for their actions. He will be baptized this Saturday, March 1. All are invited to attend, although we will surely miss all our family who live far away!
We made the decision not to have birthday parties every year because then the boys would just expect bigger and better each year. Plus we don't think they need one every year. So, on big, and special birthdays they get to have a birthday party (i.e. ages 5, 8, 12, 16). Colin chose to have his at Thunderbird Skating Rink. He absolutely enjoyed every minute of it, and it was wonderful not to have a mess to clean up at my own home!
Colin loves to rollerblade. He learned by using my blades. He tried the regular skates one time and couldn't stand them. So he either has to bring his own rollerblades to the rink or rent theirs for $3 more.

He's about to blow out his candles on his cookie cake. He didn't want cupcakes or a cake, so this is what he chose. Works for me...although it was supposed to be a chocolate chip cookie and ended up being a sugar cookie. That's what I get for going to Walmart :(
Cameron on the other hand preferred the skates over rollerblades.

it wouldn't be a birthday at Thunderbird unless you go into the money machine. With a few rules to follow he came out with $2. You can only use one hand and have to catch and store everything in that one hand. We got a video of it, but I think it's too big to load. Anyways, I'm glad it's over and that he had a wonderful time!

Happy Belated B-day COLLIN!!!!
YAY! How exciting to be 8!
How fun! Happy Birthday Colin! I haven't been to a roller rink in a LONG time...like the seventh grade-long time. I don't think I had much of a life as a teenager. I lived too far from anything...hmmm. Maybe that's why I like the big city so much, because everything's within a mile's reach.
The cookie cake was a good idea! By the time I was sixteen or so, I was tired of the original cake and icecream and instead I would have everyone make their favorite blizzard and eat that. Sorry it turned out a sugar cookie though. I hope it was good! I didn't know Wally World made those.
Hey Mindy, I started a blog not to long ago and I was reading Shelby's tonight and came across your blog. Your family looks so cute and I can't believe you had another boy!
Happy Birthday Collin! What a big and important decision you have made to be baptized. Congratulations! We wish we lived closer to see you be baptized, but will be thinking of you on Saturday! We'll look forward to hearing all about it! Good Luck!
We are excited for his baptism on Saturday!
