Well, I think I have conquered Austin needing a bottle at bedtime. Since he was born it's been our ritual to go to his room, close the door, sit in the glider and feed him before he joins the sandman. I didn't feed him until he fell asleep, but made sure he was still awake when I put him down. After I quit nursing Chris would do the same thing with the bottle. He'd finish his bottle and lay him in bed with 'Mr. Bear.' (the one he's hugging)

After three boys to go on, I know that routines help children and babies do better going to bed each night. Austin has been a textbook example of how a child will follow a routine if you stick to it. At his 1 yr. checkup the doctor suggested that we try to start taking the bottle away. I've been so afraid to do it. I think I've grown emotionally attached to these nighttime feedings as well. Right now I feel so attached to Austin and thoroughly love holding him, kissing his head, and rubbing his soft cheeks in the quiet of his room each night.
Austin always had to have his bottles warm and didn't like to drink milk out of a sippy cup (still to this day). He takes a few sips and won't drink anymore at that sitting. Last night he was pretty full from a later dinner and I decided I wouldn't give him the full amount of milk. He did great. He didn't even drink all that I gave him. Tonight I thought well, I'll give him a drink of milk from his cup to top his tummy off and just hold him in the glider for a bit before laying him down. It worked magnificently. I'm going to start reading a book to him again (some habits are easier to break) and that will be our new practice.
Austin is pretty much down to one nap each day as well. As long as I can be disciplined enough to work my schedule around his nap then it will be great. Bed at 7pm- wake at 7am. What more can I ask for?
He had his 15 month check up last week. Let's just say we have a short, fat, big headed kid!!!
weight: 29 lbs 3.2 oz (93%)
head: 20" (99%)
length: 30.75 in. (35%)
I had to laugh. At least his stomach is proportioned to his head and he doesn't look like he has a huge head!
Our little tank is growing up too fast...
In fact our nursery at church is down to like 3 kids, so the leader suggested that Austin and his friend Tessa join the nursery (Austin will be 18 months in April)! WHEW HOO! Austin went for the first time on Sunday and did great. When I picked him up he was so proud to show me how he could shoot the ball in the basketball hoop. He loved being in there. It's a huge relief for Chris going from young mens to elders quorum and myself having relief society responsiblities.
Chris has the flu. Had the shot, but this is a different string of it. He hasn't been this sick since he was a junior in high school and lost 15 lbs. He says he started his weight loss plan yesterday! I think it's something he picked up at work. Another dr. called in and 4 other employees called in yesterday. He's been more sick in the last 3 months than in the almost 9 years we've been married!

Well I have not left a message yet so I thought I would... Your blog is so cute! I love it and as for your family well... they are to cute for words! Love Ya
Seeing your three boys makes me feel better about #3 on the way. We are actually seriuosly considering Collin for a name for him, I hope you don't mind. Also was was thinking how cute your blog was, along with the previous blog. Then I saw you cute blog link. So do you have to pay for the blog background (or what ever you want to call it)?
That's funny that Austin doesn't like cold milk, Spencer STILL prefers warm milk in a sippy cup! I can't believe he will be 18 months in April. How nice that they're letting him go to nursery! And even nicer that he likes it!!!
I love your blog!!!!!! It's soooooooooooo cute!!!
Hannah pretty much never ever drinks milk. I was still nursing, but we went through the exact same thing as you with the bottle. I was more worried about the transition than I should've been. I'm glad it's going so well!
Nat, no you don't have to pay for the backgrounds and this one doesn't erase all of your links like pyzam does! It's so simple and the instructions are there on her site as well. good luck!
Austin is such a cutie! I was also thinking how cute your blog background is! I think I will have change mine now! That is really nice too that it won't erase your contacts!!
Austin's such a cute little chunk! I also cherish those sweet quiet moments before Mo goes to sleep. That's the best part about still nursing him...I get/have to do it every night. Although, there are definitely some nights (and mornings) that I wish the hubby could take over! Happy to hear the transition to the sippy cup is going well so far. It's always a little stressful to change up your kids' routines because they really do thrive on them, but at the same time they can adapt to change so quickly and our worries are usually for nothing. Lucky you he gets to go to nursery early...that's real cause for celebration! Maybe after Chris is feeling a little better, hopefully soon!
those little milestones are so bitter-sweet, aren't they?! You are such a cute mom!!
Love your new layout!!! So cute! I guess we are going to play phone tag forever!!!! That's great the bottle was so easy to rid....I hear it is so hard but Kacey didn't really notice either. Hope Chris gets well soon!
Way to go Austin! I know, it totally stinks taking away those habits that your kids love. I have the hardest time with it. Austin looks SO cute with Mr. Bear.
And I LOVE your header photo! How cute!
Congrats on the bottle! I just cant believe how much your family has grown! I hope Chris gets feeling better. We need to get together soon! Call me!
Holy list of comments!
I meant to tell you when I saw you the other day that the picture of the boys with their striped shirts and bare feet is SO cute. You really do have handsome boys.
I also meant to ask you about that bottle thing, so I still will. Tessa was just about done with bottles before our vacation, and now it's my fault that they aren't all packed away. I've got to get over it. I think Tessa will be as soon as I am.
i love the pictures of your kids. fun to catch up a bit... just stumbled onto your site. i haven't seen you in forever, but i see katrina all the time :)
