What's Been Going on???

BABYSITTING
Wow, what a busy couple of weeks we've had! My mom went to visit my dad in the Philippines and we've been 'babysitting' my 16 yr. old brother Shawn! It's been tough having him leave the house at 6am (for seminary), go straight to school, straight to work and then arrive back to our place around 8pm. I just feel bad b/c he's been sleeping on the sofa. But he says he's fine. I am guessing the worst part for him is that Austin was waking up a few times during the night and of course he gets pretty loud by the time I hear him. So, I hooked up the monitor and can hear him before Shawn does. Thank goodness I haven't lost too much sleep the past coupld of nights.
Mom comes home on Monday! Yes we'll be doing some cleaning at her house today and tomorrow! We've hung out there a few times and didn't get our mess cleaned up...so don't worry mom you won't come home to a messy house. I know it and so does Shawn!
VOLUNTEER WORK
I helped out at Colins' school in the workroom and plan on doing it once a week. It's nice to be involved and I enjoy the company of the teachers and other moms that I meet. I have been hesitant up until this point because I've had Austin. But I've had a few ladies offer to watch him and I did leave him with one on Wed. and he was great. He's only been left with someone other than family like two times now so I was happy to hear he didn't cry once!
I made it to play volleyball last night after a church meeting. I haven't played in a couple of weeks b/c of stitches (had a few moles removed). I stunk, though. I'm my own worst critic. Next week I plan on playing and playing better.
SPEECH
And today I took Cameron to get his speech assessed at the early childhood school we are zoned to. There are a few letters that don't really come out correctly and he has a lisp. Others have said it wouldn't hurt to get him checked out and I don't see/hear him interact all that much with other kids his age, so we've forgotten whats normal for 4 yr. olds. Well, darn he's fine!!! It's a good thing. They understood everything he said and I was surprised that I did get him to converse with me and the other two ladies present. So, I'm thinking that people that can't understand him just aren't around him enough and/or don't really pay attention when he's speaking to them!!! I'm guilty of that myself at times. So, if you start to get concerned with your childs speech they are probably o.k.
I'll give you an idea of certain letter sounds that aren't usually mastered until later. This is off a list they gave me.
The sounds p, h, w, m, n, b, d, t, y aren't mastered until around age 3
k, g, f, age 4
l age 6
th, sh, ch, j, zh age 7
s, z, consanantal r & vocalic r age 7 1/2
even lisps might not go away until around age 7
Have a great weekend...no pictures to post today!

Tell Shawn hi for us. It probably isn't the norm to have a male teenager babysit, but Shawn was the best (and most dependable) sitter we had in A-town. Plus Drew really liked him.

Karl had his assessment today as well! Nothing to note except to keep an eye (or ear) on the stuttering -- seems developmentally normal... whatever that is! (O:

I felt like I was in high school last night, too! Hope to see you tomorrow for the game!! LET'S GO 7th!!
