School Supplies

Do you ever remember asking your parents how much school supplies cost when you were growing up? I sure don't! We just bought all of Colins' for 2nd grade, and I can't believe how much stuff costs and adds up...to the tune of about $35 (supplies alone). Can you imagine having 6+ kids and having to fork out that much for supplies?! And let's not forget new school clothes, shoes, backpacks, lunch boxes & water thermos'. You're looking at over $100 at least and it's only 2nd grade!!! Of course I don't mind shopping for clothes for the boys.
I must give thanks to my mother in law, though. She is such a bargain shopper and found great deals on t-shirts for the boys as well as misc. school supplies. So before hitting Staples & Walmart we stopped at grandmas to shop.
A word of advice- when/if you get a form sent home from the schools to order packets of supplies through the PTA, GO FOR IT. Less hassle and a bit cheaper! Somehow I missed that memo this past year.

*i wanted to say another congrats to my cousin and his wife for the adoption of their first child a few weeks ago. Josh & Jalyce adopted Taylee Sue in July. Taylee has had a bit of a struggle these first couple weeks of her life, but she is fighting hard. She got bacterial meningitis, but is home and to be progressing. Mom went crazy and bought tons of darling outfits, and I got some things together and made this for them. I love pictures of baby feet & hands. Unfortunately, Austins' are a bit too chubby to turn out nice in a picture, so I snapped some of Beckis' daughters feet. I bought a red frame and painted it white. Then scuffed it up, so it then looks like pink is showing through. The colors of her room are yellow and pink. I love you guys and you're in our prayers.

So, Becki when I make my millions are you going to expect Reese to receive a portion of my earnings?!

Same picture...just a different angle (don't mind the track lights shining through the glass)

Cute frame!

I know I don't have a child in school yet BUT I like to stock up around school time on things so we have plenty of colors and paper for the year. This year I waited until we were in Houston B/C OK just passed a law that you can't sell anything below cost. So crayons here are $1 for a box of 24 while in TX they are 20 cents. Notebooks are 40cents here and 10 cents in TX and so forth. I bought a ton of stuff in TX for $14 which would have probably been over $30 in OK. Apparently the state actually called our local walmarts and told them they had to raise their prices b/c of the law. I thought it was ridiculous until Anthony explained why we have the law, but admittedly I still wish we didn't.

Cute Frame!! School supplies are expensive!! However, I guarantee I spent more money in that year of teaching on things for the students, (supplies and for fun activities) than the parents did!! Maybe my team did too much! :-)

Mindy,
Cute picture. Is photography something that you are thinking about doing as a carrer? I really like like what you have done with the picture. Misty like to do photopraphy also.

Nann, there are a lot of things that I'd love to do. So once the kids are all in school we'll see what road I take!
