Update

Just a quick update on Austin. Sunday afternoon he took a four hour nap uninterupted. I though that everything was looking on the mends. Well, I couldn't have been more wrong. He woke up about 4:30 and ate a little bit. Then he coughed non-stop for the next about two hours. He couldn't catch a full breath without coughing. I called the on call pediatrician and talked to her about his symtoms. She said if he's not in distress then I could wait until morning and bring him in. Well, his chest wasn't heaving for breath, but the coughing was out of control. I remember I used to get so frustrated with my sister when she'd be up coughing into the night. I just decided to take him into the ER and good thing I did. He tested positive for the dreaded RSV. The ONE virus I've been worried about him getting since he was born. And they said he has a minor case of pneumonia. Oh, and he has a mild case of thrush. They took chest xrays and gave him a shot that normally has a numbing agent along with it...but since he's so young they can't give to him. It was a thick substance and took a long time to push into his little thigh. He was so mad. We finally left around 12:30 after about 4 hours. Of course we had to go and fill prescriptions for these. I was so hungry that I stopped at Whataburger for a cinammon roll while the prescriptions were getting filled. He slept pretty well that night considering all he'd been through.
But last night has been the best. He slept from 9:30 until 4 and then after another breathing treatment and some milk he went back until 7:30. As of right now at 1:30pm he's been asleep for about 3 1/2 hours napping. He was smiling again this morning and the coughing has subsided tremendously.
We aren't exactly sure where he picked it from, but just a warning. Even if your child has a cough, runny nose/cold symptoms try not go around other babies. I'm so glad I didn't take him to church on Sunday. RSV is just a cold in adults and older kids but is scary stuff in babies.

Poor Austin! Jordan got RSV when he was little and it was so sad. Be thankful that he did not have to stay in the hospital. Hope he is feeling better soon!

How sad! I feel so bad for little Austin, and you for having to make the dreaded trip to the ER. Sounds like he's doing better now though, so that's good. Hope he gets over it very soon!

RSV is scary, and very contagious. I hope with his meds he gets better soon.

Poor Austin! I'm so glad that he's feeling better. My niece got RSV about a month and a half ago too. It's so contagious and definitely the illness you dread most with a winter baby.
