This month is a busy one for our family. Colin turned 7 yesterday! I think he had a fun day. Since Chris had young mens last night he took Colin to get donuts for breakfast, and of course remembered to bring me a cream filled one home. Then I took cupcakes to school to share with Colins' classmates. We'd given Colin money because he's been wanting new shoes. He was going back and forth between Skechers Airators (the shoes that breathe) or Heelys (the shoes with the wheel in the heel). After school I took him and a friend to the mall. His final decision was to go with the Airators. I was grateful for that because they cost less than the Heelys. Grandma and Grandpa Pete pitched in $ to get the shoes, and Aunt Katrina/Uncle Aarons' gift went towards them as well. I treated the boys to an ice cream cone and then we took his friend home. We picked up Austin and Cameron at Grandma Daltons' house and he got his present from them. They'd fixed up Shawns' old bike that is the next size Colin would be getting. It looks like new.
I've been thinking a lot about how much kids are over indulged. I was worried about Colin not having actual presents to open yesterday morning from us, but he was SOOO excited to get cash. I did put the money in an envelope to open. He even thanked me for the decorations that I put up in the house. He would've liked a party, but we've been preparing him since his last birthday that we couldn't do it this year. He was ok with it and he is happy he got something he's really been wanting.
Here are his new shoes
Macho, Macho Man! And yes he's in shorts and a short sleeve shirt. Oh, how we love Texas weather!

Happy birthday, Colin! Those are some cool looking shoes. Oh, the things I have to look forward to being the mom of boys! I didn't even know there were shoes that BREATHE out there. I totally agree with you about most kids being over indulged, and I think it's a great idea to keep things a little more low-key and not have the huge party every year. I know my childhood wasn't like that and I'm sure yours wasn't either. And look how great WE turned out! :)
